A Southern Crush: Tasting “La Réserve 2023” from Domaine de Trépaloup

Dernière mise à jour : 15 avr.

I first tasted La Réserve 2023 from Domaine de Trépaloup during my time working on the Millésime BIO trade fair this year, the world’s largest organic wine fair. In between organising the wine competition and helping with the event, I managed to sneak in a few tastings — and this one stopped me in my tracks.

I had a real crush on it right away. So much so that I went back and bought a bottle for myself, secretly wondering if the magic of that first sip was just tied to the moment. But it wasn’t. Tasting it again at home confirmed it: this wine is truly something special — and it feels just right to make it my first ever review on the Languedoc Wine Experience blog.

Tasting Notes – La Réserve 2023, Domaine de Trépaloup, IGP Cévennes

This wine is a blend of Marselan, Syrah, Merlot, and Grenache, with 10 months of oak aging. This IGP Cévennes red has a deep ruby robe and a very inviting nose, bursting with black fruits like blackberry and blackcurrant, layered with fresh raspberry, warm spice, a touch of vanilla, and a whisper of garrigue and leather. It’s the kind of nose that makes you want to dive right in.

On the palate, the fruit shines through with lovely freshness, silky, velvety tannins, and a round, generous mouthfeel. The finish brings back those notes of vanilla, spice, and wild herbs. It’s a wine that’s both gourmand and elegant, and one I’d happily enjoy with a grilled steak or an aged Comté.

Best served around 18°C, this wine has a great aging potential — but honestly, it’s already delicious now.

Meet the Winemakers – Domaine Trepaloup

Domaine de Trépaloup is located near Sommières, in the small village of Saint Clément in the Gard department. The estate cultivates 16 hectares of vines (AOP Languedoc Sommières and IGP Cévennes appellations) across stony, well-drained limestone slopes — part of both the Surrounded by fragrant Mediterranean garrigue — pine forests, wild thyme, and rosemary — the vines benefit from a unique environment that lends distinctive, local character to the wines.

At the head of these creations is Rémi Vandôme, who crafts wines with both precision and passion. The estate is certified organic, no synthetic products are used: the vineyard is fertilised naturally and partially grass-covered to support biodiversity and reduce erosion. Most of the grapes are harvested by hand.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re new to southern French wines or already a fan, this bottle is a must-try. It’s proof that Languedoc has real gems waiting to be discovered — and Domaine de Trépaloup is clearly one to watch.
